Artificial Intelligence (AI) has hit the highways of Alaska, and a new guide from Canada has produced an artificial view of our state. 

This AI-produced guide doesn't seem to have heard about spruce. Speaking of Denali Park, it writes: "The air is crisp and invigorating, carrying with it the scent of pine..." 

Road miles that start in Canada move on relentlessly and mathematically, and have nothing to do with our actual road mileage system, claiming that Talkeetna is located at "Mile 1627." 

Stories about Delta Junction are illustrated by showing the same "End Of The Alaska Highway" sign in Delta – not just once, but four different times. As if Delta had no huge farms, or historic roadhouses, or trail history. 

As AI describes Denali Park, the aurora borealis plays across the night of a bright Alaskan summer, with "a sky ablaze with stars." 

The Denali boardwalk (which is a summer-only event) is described several times as "a vibrant community" and a "town" with "local elders" imparting cultural "wisdom." 

In the world of artificial intelligence, hiking trails at Denali take you past "cascading waterfalls." And the AI  "map of Denali" doesn't show Denali Park. It's a digitized map of the Denali Princess hotel parking lot. 

This problem of scrambled information, made by computers – not human beings – isn't unique to Canadian travel publications.  

Nationally-known website building programs – such as WIX – are urging businesses to turn over the task of describing your business to "AI" programs instead of writing about it for yourself. Let's see how well that turns out.

Here's the deal. AI is not real. 

But...

Alaska is real. Your business is real. Your family is real.
